The 611 Church Street project in Ann Arbor is an existing 12-unit, four-story student apartment building located two blocks from the University of Michigan campus. The structure was built in the 1960s. Therefore, the building enclosure was long overdue for upgrades. A.R. Brouwer Company’s scope of work included tuck-pointing and painting masonry, patching and repairing the exterior plaster skin, and replacing single-pane glass curtainwall with new energy-efficient, operable windows.
The project posed a construction staging and logistics challenge, as it is located on a tight urban site, surrounded by other buildings, an alley, and the street. The scaffolding was designed specifically for the project, and we worked closely with the City of Ann Arbor to ensure public safety throughout construction. A.R. Brouwer Company met a challenging schedule, and students were able to occupy the apartments in time for the fall 2022 school year.
